Why the frassati five?
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati has served as our patron saint for the 2024-2025 school year at Raider Catholic! Pier Giorgio, who is set to be canonized in the 2025 Jubilee year, was a young man who loved deeply and was a true steward of his gifts. He came from a wealthy family, but gave all he had to those in need. We look to Pier Giorgio Frassati as an example to us all on generosity.
Pier Giorgio loved the mountains, was an ardent adorer of the Eucharist, a dedicated follower of St. Dominic, a friend to the friendless, and a model of humility. He is known as a "Man of the Beatitudes". His famous slogan "Verso l'alto", meaning, "to the heights", reminds us all that we should strive for something much greater than the things of this world. Our ultimate goal is to be in Heaven among the Angels and Saints, a feat Pier Giorgio Frassati was able to model for us.

who is bl. pier giorgio frassati?
Pier Giorgio Michelangelo Frassati was born in Turin, Italy on April 6, 1901. He was a university student, just like the students we serve at Raider Catholic. Mountain climbing was one of his favorite sports. Though he came from a wealthy family, he turned his back on the wealth and pursued holiness above all else. He lived a life of great charity. What little he did have, Pier Giorgio gave to help the poor.
Just before receiving his university degree, Pier Giorgio contracted poliomyelitis, which doctors later speculated he caught from the sick whom he tended. After six days of terrible suffering, Pier Giorgio died at the age of 24 on July 4, 1925. He serves as a guide for how we should live our lives generously in service of others.
May Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati intercede for us all as to strive to reach "to the heights" of our own lives.
